Yesterday we crossed into Italy, spending time in the seaport city of Trieste at the northernmost point of the Adriatic Sea. We changed money, had a brief tour of the city center, and posed for the obligatory group photo. Great Italian cooking tantalized the tastebuds at lunch. We shopped and hunted for gelato as we dodged the rain drops. Then, we boarded the tour bus for the two-hour ride to Venezia. Today will be a full, last day. The wake-up call comes early with breakfast being served from 6 until 7:15. We leave for Venice by boat at 8:00, stopping first at Murano Island for a glass-blowing demonstration. Exploring Piazza San Marco and touring the Doge’s Palace follow. Since this is Italy, a leisurely lunch is mandatory. There will be some free time. Finally, gondola rides complete a tantalizing introduction to this magnificent country before the boat takes us back to our hotel.
