Franklin Academy’s travel/study program is an important part of our curriculum. We provide exciting opportunities for students to visit countries across the globe to gain an informed international perspective about people, languages, culture, and history. Recent destinations have included Greece, Turkey, Italy, Ireland and Scotland, India and Nepal, Japan, Cuba, Iceland, Croatia, and Slovenia.
Now, I am delighted to share the good news that Franklin Academy will be offering a Spring Intersession trip to the island of Puerto Rico. While Puerto Rico is officially an unincorporated territory of the United States, this experience will feel much like visiting another country. In addition, pandemic metrics are also very encouraging. Over 70% of the population is vaccinated, and the rate of infection is extremely low.
Roberto Padua, a native of Puerto Rico and our Science Chair, will serve as the trip leader. Melissa Spindler, FLI Residential Specialist; Lexa Lopez, Heron Science Instructor; and Kinsley Rausch-Dudzic, Associate Director of Advancement, will join Roberto as chaperones. Each chaperone is fluent in Spanish. Our partner for past international trips, EF Educational Tours, will handle the itinerary, air and coach travel, hotel accommodations, and meals. EF will provide our tour director as well. The travel dates are April 5 to April 11, 2022.
