Gratitude at Franklin Academy: Celebrating the Journey Together

It is not surprising that the word around Franklin Academy this time of year is gratitude. This feeling permeates every aspect of our work, from the way we interact with our students and their families, to the triumphs we celebrate, to the unwavering dedication of our staff. It’s a privilege beyond measure to work in a space where each day is an opportunity to witness incredible growth and transformation, particularly with students who are neurodivergent.

At Franklin Academy, we are deeply grateful for the trust that families place in us. When a student becomes part of the Franklin family, it is an honor we do not take lightly. We know that each child’s journey is unique, and every family has its own story—one that’s filled with hope, challenges, and dreams for a brighter future. We are privileged to walk beside you. The partnership between our school and families is what makes the magic happen. We see it in the little victories—the moments when a student grasps a concept for the first time, when they take a risk and succeed, or when they step out of their comfort zone and embrace new challenges. These moments are only possible because of the trust you place in us.

This year already has been a testament to the remarkable achievements of our students—accomplishments that go beyond grades and test scores. Our students continue to defy expectations, taking bold steps forward both inside and outside the classroom. More students than ever are taking college-level courses at the University of Connecticut, paving the way for future academic success. Our students’ passion for learning extends beyond traditional academics. Many are discovering their interests and talents in meaningful ways, whether it’s through supporting the Franklin Farm, connecting with animals in our growing Animal Studies program, or getting involved in off-campus volunteering opportunities.

Our school spirit is alive and well, and nowhere is that more evident than at our annual Homecoming celebration, where students, staff, and families come together to celebrate Franklin Pride. In addition, our student-athletes have stepped up in ways that inspire us all. Whether it’s the grit shown on the soccer field, the determination in the pool during swim meets, or the raw courage of our new basketball team, our athletes are taking risks and pushing themselves to new heights.

At the heart of everything we do at Franklin Academy are our dedicated faculty and staff. Each day, our teachers and staff members go above and beyond, not just as educators, but as mentors, advocates, and champions for our students. What stands out most is the immense pride our faculty takes in the work that students do. They celebrate every accomplishment—big or small—and work tirelessly to ensure that each
student reaches their fullest potential. Our teachers don’t just teach; they build relationships, create safe spaces for growth, and inspire students to see their own greatness. It’s that kind of commitment that truly makes Franklin Academy stand apart.

As I reflect on all that Franklin Academy has achieved, I am filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude for every member of our community. From the families who trust us with their children’s education, to the students who continually surprise and inspire us with their resilience and talent, to the staff who work tirelessly to support and guide our students, we are all part of something truly special. Franklin Academy is more than a school—it is a place where students are empowered to defy expectations and challenge the status quo. It’s a place where neurodivergent students, families, and educators come together to create an environment where everyone can thrive. This is a place where greatness is not only possible but inevitable. I am so proud of the work we do here, and I am deeply grateful to be part of this extraordinary community.

In a world that often seeks to fit people into boxes, Franklin Academy stands as a shining example of what’s possible when we embrace diversity, celebrate individuality, and work together toward a common goal. Here, we challenge the norms and rewrite the rules. And as we continue to grow, we will remain a leading force in education—one that not only supports but champions the incredible potential of every student.
