Peak autumn foliage has come and gone. As a result, we have said goodbye to Halloween and Daylight Savings Time. Overnight frost glistens on the grass, and snow showers are in the forecast. Winter is just around the corner. On the academic front, the time of transition during the first term is over. Consequently, students have acclimated to the realities, norms, and routines of school. Now, teachers are focusing on those vital competencies necessary for life-long learning: reading comprehension, critical thinking, research, program-solving, writing, mathematics, data analysis, and study skills. There is an emphasis on skill development, social cognition, and self-advocacy, and students are making use of their systems for managing emotional regulation and executive functioning. The real work of the school year is underway.
