Let me tell you, one of the absolute joys of my job is speaking with neurodivergent students from
all over the country and even across oceans. Honestly, there’s nothing like a conversation where
we dive into their passions, dreams, and (let’s be real) a shared disdain for the daily grind of
traditional schooling. But that’s where Franklin Academy comes in, and my reason for being at
this school—trust me, it’s more than just a job!
Now, let me paint you a picture. Imagine me, speaking with a student in Nebraska, another in
England, and yet another in Bermuda. The best part? Every single one of these students has
something incredible and unique to offer. One might be coding circles around my understanding
of JavaScript, while another is explaining the finer points of how Pokémon has subtly evolved its
storyline since Generation One (spoiler: the passion is real). Someone else may share their latest
fan fiction creation or love of all things related to Anthrozoology.
But in each of these chats, there’s this common thread: they’re just tired of enduring school. Or
worse, school has become so intolerable they just don’t want to go anymore. That’s where I
come in. My goal, my mission, is to make sure school isn’t something students have to survive. I
want them to thrive. Franklin Academy is designed for that very purpose—helping
neurodivergent students find their place, excel in ways they never thought possible, and maybe
even (dare I say it?) enjoy the process.
Why should school be something you just endure or even despise? The point is, Franklin
Academy doesn’t want students to just get by—we want them to live, learn, and embrace their
awesomeness. We want students to pursue (or find!) their passions and be launched into young
adulthood with the skill sets to really land on their feet and make great contributions to their
worlds.
Whether it’s exploring your talent for 3D modeling, finally getting that chance to really dig into
chemistry experiments without being rushed, or simply being in an environment where people
get you, Franklin Academy is a place where you can thrive. No more being the square peg in a
round hole. Nope! Here, we make room for every shape. No need to mask anymore, here you can
be your authentic self.
So, to all the students I’ve had the pleasure of chatting with—whether you’re a pro at Minecraft,
solving complex equations for fun, or have a collection of fidget spinners that rivals museum
exhibits—I see you. Franklin Academy sees you. And we can’t wait for you to see what thriving
feels like.
Here’s to the adventures ahead, come join us!
