As the autumn leaves began to change, families arrived on campus eager to experience the unique spirit of Franklin during Fall Family Weekend, an annual tradition that brings together students, parents, and staff for a time of connection and celebration. The weekend offered a wonderful mix of learning, classroom visits, and social gatherings. Parents had the opportunity to meet teachers, attend the FA Family Association meeting, hear alumni insights, and speak with representatives from a selection of colleges and post-secondary programs. These events offered parents a deeper understanding of their child’s journey at Franklin and beyond. For me, the alumni panel was especially powerful, because they were so articulate about how their experience at Franklin Academy not only gave them the education and skills to become successful adults, but also gave them the confidence to define what success means to them.
One of the standout moments of the weekend was the family mixer, where the sense of community was palpable. Laughter filled the room as parents met each other, sharing stories and building connections with others on similar journeys. I enjoyed meeting new parents and reconnecting with returning families; as a parent of three neurodivergent children, I deeply value these connections and the support of a community that shares this experience. It really is true that it takes a village, and Franklin Academy really does provide sense of community for our families.
Though the weekend was filled with a range of engaging activities, the Annual Experiences Auction was a highlight for me. The auction featured 15 unique faculty-student experiences, ranging from lighthearted events like gaming nights to exclusive gatherings, including a party at the Head of School’s home. The creative and personal nature of these experiences added a special layer to the weekend, offering families and students the chance to connect with faculty in a fun and informal setting while also supporting the school’s mission in a meaningful way. My hope is that this is where Franklin’s commitment to collaboration, personal growth, and community spirit truly shined.
The Annual Experiences Auction isn’t just about having fun—it’s a vital fundraiser that directly supports the academy’s mission of nurturing the intellectual, emotional, and social development of every student. The funds raised during the auction go towards enhancing Franklin Academy’s student experience and signature programs, ensuring that we continue to offer the highest quality education while fostering an environment where students can thrive. From bolstering academic initiatives to supporting extracurricular activities, these contributions help make Franklin a place where every student can find their path to success. This year’s auction once again demonstrated the power of community coming together to support the institution’s goals, and we were able to raise almost 20% of our Annual Fund goal!
Family Weekend, coupled with the success of the Annual Experiences Auction, is a reminder of the strength of our community. Franklin Academy is not just a school; it’s a place where relationships are built, where students are supported holistically, and where parents, faculty, and staff all play a crucial role in shaping the future of our students. The success of the auction reflects the dedication of our families to investing in the Franklin experience and ensuring its growth for future generations.
As I reflect on this incredible weekend, I am filled with gratitude for the generosity and enthusiasm shown by our families and staff. Together, we are building a foundation for the continued success of Franklin Academy—one where every student is supported, inspired, and encouraged to achieve their fullest potential.
Here’s to another wonderful year of community, connection, and shared experiences! We look forward to seeing the impact these contributions will make as we continue to grow as a Franklin Academy family.
