As the summer days fade and the crispness of fall arrives, Franklin Academy has once again come to life with the start of the 2024-2025 academic year. Our first week back has been nothing short of extraordinary, marked by the enthusiastic energy of students forming new friendships, a renewed sense of pride and belonging within our school community, and educators full of admiration for the remarkable talent our students bring to the table.
One highlight of our opening week is the incredible feat achieved by Amy Bigelow, our esteemed Math Department Chair. Each year, Amy sets herself a bold challenge: to learn every student and faculty member’s first name and hometown within just three days of school starting. This year was no exception, and Amy once again surpassed expectations, demonstrating her dedication to creating a personal and supportive environment for everyone at Franklin Academy.
This year, we’re excited to embark on a bold approach with several new initiatives aimed at enriching our students’ educational experiences. We kicked off the year with our inaugural convocation and Future of Franklin Academy celebrations, events that provided a platform to express our gratitude to our alumni, Franklin Academy families, our student-centered staff, and our generous donors whose support enhances the student experience. These occasions are pivotal as they allow us to reflect on our founding principles and set ambitious goals for the future. Our convocation served as a powerful reminder that our students have the potential to achieve greatness, a testament to the outstanding outcomes of our alumni who have gone on to make significant impacts in various fields. At Franklin Academy, we are committed to continually creating and expanding our programs to ensure that every student has the opportunity to grow, belong, and succeed. By fostering an environment here high expectations are coupled with unwavering support, we are dedicated to nurturing the talents and aspirations of each student, ensuring that they leave here well-prepared to make their mark on the world.
In athletics, we have seen some thrilling developments. Our students showcased their dedication and skill by trying out and earning spots on the varsity swim team in partnership with the Middlesex YMCA. Additionally, our varsity soccer team made history by playing Franklin Academy’s first-ever soccer game in Providence. With 14 students representing us on the field, this moment was a significant milestone for our school and a testament to the hard work and enthusiasm of our student-athletes. Another remarkable aspect of this first week has been the inclusiveness and kindness displayed by our students. During community meetings, students have been consistently affirming and supporting one another, welcoming new friends and fostering a sense of unity. This spirit of camaraderie and empathy is a cornerstone of what we proudly call the Franklin Difference.
As we reflect on this transformative first week, it is clear that the enthusiasm, commitment, and kindness of our community continue to define Franklin Academy. This beginning not only showcases our ongoing dedication to excellence but also reaffirms the special environment that makes our school a unique and nurturing place for all.
