Biography:

Julie Connors is an accomplished art educator with a diverse and rich background in both teaching and professional artistry. As she embarks on her 18th year at Franklin, Julie brings a wealth of experience from her early career, which began with running the Fairfield Town Arts Program and teaching at the Fine Arts Magnet school in New Haven. Her teaching journey has been marked by a commitment to excellence, creativity, and student engagement, reflecting her deep passion for the arts.

Julie’s educational credentials include a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Illustration and Communication from Pratt Institute and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Holistic Learning and Thinking from The Graduate Institute. Her unique combination of expertise as a freelance painter, muralist, and stone mason enriches her teaching, allowing her to bring a practical and multifaceted approach to the classroom.

At Franklin, Julie’s teaching philosophy centers on increasing student engagement by creating opportunities for active participation in the arts community through exhibitions and collaborative projects. She fosters a culturally diverse environment that encourages exploration of various artistic traditions and perspectives. Julie is dedicated to helping students develop strong portfolios, critical thinking skills, and self-reflection practices while preparing them for higher education or careers in visual arts. Her holistic approach supports personal growth and well-being, ensuring that students not only excel artistically but also thrive as individuals.
