The college admissions process can be complex, particularly for neurodivergent students. Among the most exciting aspects of this journey are college tours. Visiting campuses provides an invaluable, firsthand perspective on student life that online research cannot fully convey.
At Franklin Academy, we offer a distinctive opportunity for exploration through our week-long Fall College Trip. This experience goes beyond the typical college tour, providing several unique benefits.
Before and after the trip, students participate in workshops designed to enhance their college search process. These sessions cover how to identify the “right fit” school, ask insightful questions during tours, understand available support programs, and narrow down their college list. Students will also receive Franklin Academy tools to help organize their thoughts and the data they will receive while on the trip.
During the Fall College Tour, students will explore a diverse range of campuses, each offering different learning environments, locations, social opportunities, and support programs for neurodiverse students. This exposure helps students clarify what they are seeking in a college, identify the types of campuses that align with their goals and needs, and focus on the qualities that matter most.
Additionally, this experience allows students to practice their social skills in various environments. From casual interactions with peers to professional engagements with admissions staff, students will gain valuable experience in navigating different social situations. This practice will bolster their self-confidence as they prepare for life after graduation.
Scheduled during Franklin Academy’s October break, the Fall College Trip also helps students develop persistence and motivation over an extended period. Similar to college, students who stay and participate on the trip will work on sustaining their attention, emotions, and social behaviors over a longer period of time. These skills are essential for succeeding in college and beyond.
