The Forensic and Criminology path is designed for those students who are interested in true crime and its related forensic fields. Students will explore the world of forensic investigation and criminology through four types of learning experiences.

First, students will watch documentaries highlighting high-profile crimes and criminals. Following these documentaries, students will learn about and discuss major themes within the world of forensics, such as motives, Modus Operandi, signature behaviors, legal strategies, criminology, and victimology.

Second, students will be able to learn directly from professionals in the field. The Franklin Academy Forensic Club has developed relationships with professionals in and around Connecticut from various institutions, such as the FBI, State Police, Office of the Medical Examiner, local fire departments, and State Crime Lab. In addition, students will have the opportunity to ask professionals who practice and teach forensic sciences and criminology about educational requirements and possible career paths.

Third, students will engage in active learning exercises to learn about and practice forensic investigation skills. For example, students will learn how to dust for and acquire fingerprint evidence, analyze blood splatter patterns, examine ballistic evidence, and determine the cause of death.

Finally, the track hopes to provide field trips to forensic sites within Connecticut, such as the State Crime Lab. Please come join us in our quest to dive deep into the world of forensics and criminology!

*Disclaimer: This path does not glorify or condone crime or violence or celebrate specific crimes or criminals. Curiosity, knowledge, and understanding underpin the mission of this path.
