Franklin Academy is pleased to announce that the school has been officially accepted as a member of the Association of LD Schools (ALDS), marking an important milestone and affirming the continued direction and strength of its mission-driven work.
ALDS is a national consortium of independent schools dedicated to serving students with language-based learning differences. The organization promotes collaboration, professional exchange, leadership development, and the advancement of best practices among member institutions. Through conferences, professional learning communities, listservs, and both virtual and in-person gatherings, member schools engage in ongoing dialogue and shared innovation. The network includes highly respected peer schools that serve as thought partners and long-term institutional collaborators.
“This membership represents a critical next step as we continue to clarify and strengthen our identity,” said Head of School Dr. Alexander Morris-Wood. “Aligning with ALDS places us in conversation with schools that are similarly focused on academic rigor, executive functioning development, and postsecondary readiness, while maintaining deep expertise in supporting complex learners. Unlike many of our peers, we are one of the few schools with a more robust social and student life model, which makes Franklin distinctive within this professional community.”
Membership in ALDS also opens the door to regional and national leadership opportunities, including presenting, committee service, and collaborative initiatives that elevate professional practice across the field. Franklin Academy looks forward to active engagement that strengthens both the school and the broader learning differences education community.
This new affiliation adds to Franklin Academy’s long-standing professional credentials, including accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and membership in both the National Association of Independent Schools and the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools.
