Fahd Rafiq
Fahd began his career as a teaching assistant in the Political Science Department at the University of Connecticut, where he developed skills in engaging students in discussions, simplifying complex concepts, and designing activities that deepened their understanding of weekly content from readings and lectures. After four years, he joined the faculty at Franklin Academy, where he currently teaches Early College Experience classes, civics, and a range of electives. Fahd values the opportunity to work with smaller class sizes, fostering deeper discussions and more meaningful connections with students. He encourages them to engage in challenging conversations, explore diverse perspectives, and critically debate key issues.
With a doctorate in political science, Fahd’s research focuses on conflict studies. He has presented papers at the Northeastern Political Science Conference (Philadelphia, 2019) and the International Studies Conference (San Francisco, 2024). Additionally, with an undergraduate degree in business administration, he has taught entrepreneurship at Franklin Academy, helping students learn about starting their own businesses and encouraging them to explore pathways beyond traditional employment.
As the father of two autistic children, Fahd finds his role at Franklin Academy particularly fulfilling, appreciating the support and training from colleagues and the broader school community. Outside of work, he enjoys spending quality time with his children and supporting his wife in her small business ventures.
