Alyssa Angell-MacKenzie
With a background in language and cognition, Alyssa brings a unique interdisciplinary approach to teaching at Franklin. Joining the Franklin Academy faculty in 2022, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics/Psychology, with minors in English and Cognitive Science, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in English at Central Connecticut State University. A lifelong resident of scenic East Haddam, Alyssa decided to pursue a teaching career after she worked in the office of a local healthcare center during the pandemic, and found great fulfillment tutoring students and revising essays on literature.
During an exciting first year at Franklin, Alyssa was dedicated to fostering an engaging learning environment through high-interest projects. This included a “Choose Your Own Adventure” class where students explored basic coding techniques to create their own text-based games. Another highlight was a short story review course, where students critically examined “great” works of fiction and debated whether such reputations were deserved. They recommend you check out “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury! In her free time, Alyssa enjoys learning world languages and playing board games.
