James McTurner
James is an educator who believes that every student deserves the tools, confidence, and self-awareness to build a meaningful life beyond the classroom. For the past twelve years, he has dedicated his career to helping students strengthen their executive functioning, communication, and self-management skills, especially those navigating learning differences or transitioning to college and adulthood.
He currently serves as the Associate Director of Franklin College Connections at Franklin Academy, where he leads programs designed to support students as they move into higher education and early career pathways. In this role, he designs and teaches curricula focused on independence, goal setting, and real-world readiness, while building partnerships with colleges and community organizations to expand opportunities for graduates.
Before stepping into this position, he led the Communications Department and worked as a Learning Specialist, developing individualized learning plans, coaching faculty, and creating skill-based workshops in emotional intelligence and executive functioning. These experiences have deepened his belief that growth happens through collaboration, reflection, and authentic connection.
With degrees in Psychology, Sociology, and Educational Psychology from University of Connecticut, he brings both research-based insight and hands-on experience to their work. Outside of education, he enjoys spending time outdoors, talking cars, playing baseball, and relaxing with their dog and a good board game.
