The middle of winter can be a slow and bleak time on a boarding school campus. However, this is not the case at Franklin Academy. Upon return from the holiday break, teachers and students spring into action with the beginning of Spirit Week. This tradition is a competition between Teams B, C, D, and FLI with so many different ways to earn points. We start with the Franklin Feud contest. Next, the Obligations Competition keeps track of on-time attendance to class, community meetings, and meals. Special Clothing Days focus on crazy hats, team-theme wear, Franklin gear, and look-alikes. Penny Wars help to empty the spare change to support the East Haddam Fuel Bank. Then, there is the Video Project, which is the creation of a movie trailer that profiles each team. The Faculty Coffee Mug Match is the final opportunity to earn points.
This year the winning team came out of nowhere, staying the course, slowly accumulating points, and surging first across the finish line with a resounding victory in the Coffee Mug Match. On behalf of the administration, I extend our congratulations to the students and teachers of Team B.
