As a way of saying thank you to Franklin Academy for its loyal business over the past decade, the Gelston House hosts a special barbecue dinner for faculty and students at the start of every school year. The event goes on, rain or shine. Usually, we are on the back patio looking out over the Connecticut River – perhaps one of the prettiest sights to see in our part of the state. This year we were inside because of Hurricane Florence’s last gasp. But no matter. There was plenty of food (countless hamburgers, grilled hotdogs, mountains of French fries, and bowls of salad) and a lot of good cheer as we enjoyed the generous hospitality of our host. On behalf of everyone in the school family, I want to extend a huge thank you to Iso, our good friend who manages the Gelston House. When you are in town visiting Franklin Academy, I hope you might visit Iso and enjoy a dinner at his restaurant which has some of the best food along the Connecticut River. Let him know that I pointed you in his direction, and ask for the “Friends of Franklin Academy” discount. Personally, I will be back at the Gelston House many times in the coming months. As for the school, we have already reserved dates there for the prom (everyone goes with or without a date) the alumni reunion dinner, and our class of 2019 reception and dinner the night before graduation. Click on the arrow in the photo above for a short one-minute glimpse of our students enjoying this year’s barbecue dinner.
