Students and staff engaged in a Shelter-in-Place drill this morning under the watchful eyes of Officer Jeff Rhoades of the East Haddam Police Department and Chelsea Lazos, our Residential Coordinator. Students learned how to take shelter in their dormitories, receiving direct staff instruction and then practicing as a group. Afterward they debriefed team-by-team to answer questions and share how they felt during the drill. They gave constructive feedback as well. In addition, Officer Rhoades offered recommendations to the administration. Previously, the Franklin Academy community has practiced fire drills, a Shelter-in-Place classroom drill, and a campus evacuation. Throughout the remainder of this year and going forward, we will continue to work closely with our local and state police officers, making certain that we are using best practices regarding safety procedures.
