Today is a spectacular Friday in January. It is sunny with blue skies and an afternoon temperature reaching the mid-fifty-degree mark. Consequently, I will need to find a convenient excuse to leave campus early to drive around in my FIAT 124 Spider with the convertible top down. The forecast over the next two weeks calls for daytime temperatures in the mid-forties. “Oh, winter, where is thy sting?” The sting usually comes in a succession of winter snowstorms during February and early March.
In the meantime, we will enjoy our good fortune, especially this weekend with a full slate of off-campus excursions. Here is the list of trips: Stop & Shop in Old Saybrook, Laser Tag in Newington, UConn Men’s Basketball game in Storrs, Martial Arts Banquet at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, Antiquing at Jeremiah’s Trading Post in Haddam, and Skiing at Ski Sundown in New Hartford. There will also be a Dunkin’ Donuts run, a movie trip, and other local excursions, as well as on-campus activities. Upcoming dates on our calendar include Halfway Day, marking the mid-point in our school year. This celebration occurs during the long Community Meeting on Wednesday. Finally, parents, please remember that signed re-enrollment contracts and deposits are due on Saturday, February 1.
