New and Returning Students Bond at Franklin Academy

This past week I received the following email from one of my new colleagues we hired this year to help with weekend duty and supervision.

Hello Fred,

I am just dropping a note to let you know how much I enjoyed spending the weekend at Franklin Academy. My first impressions focused on the welcoming and friendly staff. Everyone took the time to answer my questions and make me feel like part of the family. Lorrie (Bennett) especially took me under her wing and showed me the ropes.

Before working with the students you said to me: “They're a great group of kids!” Well, I certainly experienced that first hand. I was fortunate to witness the students encouraging each other with pep talks and problem-solving as a group. I know that not everyday will unfold the same way, but it was apparent that the returning students had life skills that they had learned and were sharing with the new students.

I also overheard a group of students talking about their experiences at other schools – most of which were not good. This led many to express how much they like FA and how lucky they are to attend. They were expressing gratitude – evidence that all of you are making a positive difference in so many lives.

I am humbled to be part of such a great team that helps improve the lives of others. Thank you for the opportunity. I am looking forward to next weekend.

Thank you, Kim. I want to end this blog posting with a video slideshow of our recent Speedfriending exercise that conveys with facial expressions, body language, and interactions the sentiments in Kim’s written message to me.
