Governor Ned Lamont of Connecticut has announced that all public schools in the state will remain closed until at least May 20. This decision confirms what many of us have anticipated. COVID-19 will be around longer. Therefore, our administrators and trustees have decided to continue Cyber Franklin until the end of this school year.

I want to congratulate all our community members on an enormously successful transition to distance learning at Franklin Academy. At the end of next week, we will begin a well-earned two-week break from classes. Everyone has worked hard. Many report that the virtual learning experience is even more intense than our typical life together on campus. How is this possible? Team contacts, as well as classroom teachers, will review essential strategies for maintaining structures over the spring break. Rest and rejuvenation are high priorities. However, we want to ensure that students are ready to return for Quint Five classes at Cyber Franklin on Monday, May 4.

We intend to celebrate many of our year-end traditions, albeit virtually, to bring this year to a successful close. Students can anticipate our annual Trivia Night activity. We will have a Talent Show and the Film Festival, as well as our Closing Ceremony. Students will have some “homework” over the break to prepare for these special events. Seniors and postgraduates and their parents should reserve Friday evening, June 5, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm for our Appreciation Book Awards. Then, we will hold our virtual Graduation on Saturday, June 6, starting at 10:30 am. I will share instructions later in May to permit everyone to participate.

In closing, please know that the educators at Franklin Academy are determined to serve our students, fulfilling the school’s mission and supporting each other to the best of our ability. Be safe. Be well.
