After being hit with a Nor’easter rain and wind storm on Saturday, we were fortunate for beautiful running conditions for our first race – 50s and sunny. The busy weekend of ACTs, Halloween party, and increased workload prevented many of our older students from participating, but our four students from Teams C and D and faculty joining them on their day off led to a strong showing with the Franklin Academy team sweeping 2 first place division awards, 2 second place awards, and 1 third in a field of 224 runners.
Congratulations are in order for first-time Franklin racers Alex and Sam, both of Team C. Since this race was a fundraiser for Haddam Youth & Family Services, the younger age groups proved quite competitive. For our older students, the field was smaller and allowed veterans Dash (Team D) and Mark (Team C) to place 1st and 2nd, beating the five others in their division.
Our faculty also fared well with Amy Bigelow (Team D Math) placing first in her division, Byron Crozier (College Counselor) placing second in his, and Vince Schmidt (Admissions) – our fastest Franklin runner overall who was also in the most competitive age group – placing third.
We hope that the success of our small group will attract more students and faculty for our next race: the Blue Back Mitten Run 5K on Sunday, December 2. The word on the street is that some students have already created their life sports training plans in preparation for the Mitten Run.
Thanks,
Amy
