Franklin Academy sponsors a martial arts team in association with the Cheezic Tang Soo Do Federation. Each year the Federation hosts a “Best of the Best” Banquet at the Aqua Turf in Southington, Connecticut. The purpose is to celebrate the accomplishments of competitors in tournaments. As a result of diligent training and strong performances, the Federation recognized the achievements of four Franklin Academy students at this banquet. Sam Payne and Rhett Manifold competed in the boys’ 14 to 17-year-old division. Rhett took first place in forms and breaking and Sam took second place in both. Zach Thornton competed in the adult division, placing third in forms and second in breaking. Finally, Josh Zweibel competed in the adult division, placing third in forms and third in breaking.
Additionally, Rhett garnered a special honor. Master Roberto Padua nominated Rhett as Franklin Academy’s student of the year, citing his active involvement in our martial arts elective over the past two years, his summertime training, and the first-place victory in his age group. Consequently, the Federation decided to honor Rhett as Cheezic Tang Soo Do Zone 3 Student of the Year, representing central Connecticut. Master Padua and Franklin Academy are incredibly proud of what our four students have accomplished.
