Jeremy Allmendinger class of 2010
In 2010 I left Connecticut for Champlain College in Burlington, VT, where I spent the next four years studying Professional Writing. I absolutely fell in love with the city, and recently became a permanent Vermont resident. I run a digital media consulting firm that has worked with a variety of clients both local and international, including publishing resource groups and an educational foundation in Bangladesh. I’m also on the conference circuit, where I have spoken at a variety of publishing events on the importance of maintaining an online presence. In my free time I’m a comedian and writer for the humor site Pavlov’s Hair Conditioner, for which I have been recognized on both sides of the Atlantic. An avid backpacker and skier, I travel the world with a stuffed hedgehog named Brillo and document his adventures on his personal website. I’ve never forgotten my time at Franklin, and have worked here for four consecutive summers, most recently in the admissions office.
Caitlin Anders Class of 2010
I graduated from Franklin Academy after spending 2 1/2 wonderful years there. Directly after graduation, I traveled with a group of Franklin teachers and students to Sydney, Australia, my very first time out of the country! In the fall of 2010 I began my time at Emerson College in Boston, MA, with a major in Writing, Literature, and Publishing. During my stay at Emerson I was the Head Editor of two different publications, interned at the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, went on a service trip to Costa Rica, worked as a food writer and reviewer, and spent a semester in Los Angeles interning as a celebrity news writer. I also spent two summers during these years back at Franklin Academy, working as a counselor for Franklin's Summer Sojourn program. For the summer of 2014, I’m working in New York City for a publication called The Stir. In August, I’ll be moving down to Florida until January to be a photographer (following in Headmaster Fred's footsteps) at Walt Disney World. Afterwards, I plan to move back to either NYC or LA - I’ll keep you posted!
Arthur Levine class of 2011
Since graduating Franklin, I have been a deck cadet at Mass Maritime. I have been on two training cruises and performed navigation and cargo handling training taking me to 5 different countries plus New Orleans, Puerto Rico, and Miami. I have also participated in a humanitarian supply drop off to Haiti. I am currently underway on my Junior Cadet ship in the Far East where I am serving with a US Navy rescue and salvage ship for military sealift command. I was selected for two senior cadet officer positions for the class of 2015 - Deck division leader where I will be responsible for around 200 cadets, and also as the 6th company 01 platoon leader with about 60 cadets. Upon graduation, I plan on applying for the coast guard commissioning program or serving in the United States merchant fleet. I am an EMT for the school ambulance and in my free time I am president of the SCUBA club and play rugby.
Lauren Birnhak, Class of 2010
After graduating from Franklin, I attended community college, where I focused on increasing my course load slowly
and trying different study methods. I had originally intended to pursue a degree in education, but found myself more interested in science and changed course accordingly. My grades were high enough to net me a membership in Phi Theta Kappa, which in turn helped me earn a scholarship to Cornell College, a small liberal arts school in Iowa with a one-course-at-a-time program. Last summer I had an internship at Lankenau Hospital's Institute for Medical Research (LIMR) on preparing a protein for investigation as to its possible relevance in breast cancer acceleration. My current major in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is complemented by a minor in Psychology, and I hope to go into cellular and chemical neuroscience.
