The spirited celebration of Pi Day is a cherished Franklin Academy tradition.  It involves the creation of a special t-shirt, an original Pi song, (last year a take-off on You Spin Me Right Round by Dead or Alive that was written and choreographed by Amy Bigelow, our Mathematics Chair, and performed by our Mathematics teachers), and an intense team competition that includes Pi trivia, pin the Pi on the teacher, identifying words with pi, and the recitation from memory of the digits of Pi for as far as one can go.  Last year one of our ninth graders, Dash Hepworth, was the last contestant standing.  He reached 293 digits after the decimal point – a new Franklin Academy record.  The day concluded with a special π Day Dinner.
