The Admissions Team: Nancy Fall, Administrative Assistant for Admissions; Sandra Mahan, Assistant Director of Admissions; and Cindy Pope, Director of Admissions. |
Franklin Academy focuses exclusively on boys and girls in grades
9 - 12 who have been diagnosed with nonverbal learning differences, including Asperger's Syndrome. Before a student or family is invited to visit campus, a recent neuropsychological evaluation (with testing that has occurred within the past three years) must be submitted for review by our Admissions Director.
Applicants should demonstrate an auditory learning style preference, possess the intellectual capability to handle our college preparatory program, and be willing to take ownership of the decision to attend Franklin Academy. Students who exhibit significant emotional and behavioral problems requiring considerable therapeutic intervention will not be considered; neither will the school consider students with unresolved substance abuse problems.
The next step in the admission process is the campus visit, which includes a relaxed interview with the Admissions
Director or Assistant Director and, if necessary, other members of the administration. This is an opportunity for the student and parents to gather
information and to experience the climate of the school. Additionally, it is a time for the school to determine if the student is an appropriate match for our program and community.
Vitally important in the admissions process is a determination that the student wants to attend the school. This may happen during the visit or after the student has left campus and has had a chance to consider what he or she learned about Franklin Academy.
Indeed, personal ownership of the
decision to come to Franklin is crucial in
developing self-advocacy skills and enables our
students to shape their educational future.
If the student wants to attend Franklin, the family is encouraged to complete the application process, which includes two years of an official school transcript, a school questionnaire, parent questionnaire, and student questionnaire. Once all of the application materials are received, the Admissions Committee, consisting of the Headmaster, Admissions Director, Educational Director, and Residential Director, makes a final decision.
While Franklin Academy does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, gender, orientation, or national origin in its educational programs, admission and hiring policies, or any of its school activities, it is important to know that our pool of students is restricted to those with nonverbal learning differences, and in this pool are more boys than girls by a 3 to 1 ratio. At this point in the history and development of the school we are unable to offer any financial aid.
